Bingo’s Positive Effects on Health

Bingo’s Positive Effects on Health Bingo is a constant source of entertainment for people both young and old around the world. Players love sitting down to a good game of bingo in hopes of winning the huge prizes and jackpots that are available. But while bingo has always been known as a fun game to play where money can be won, it has rarely ever been associated with good health. In fact, few people know the health benefits of playing bingo and have even considered it to be detrimental to better health.

Common Line of Thinking

If you’re looking to decrease your weight or lower blood pressure then bingo probably isn’t going to be of much use to you. It is a relatively sedentary activity where people sit around for long amounts of time while playing.  Seeing as how this is the case, both online and live bingo has earned its share of critics over the years.

People who are critical of bingo and think that it hurts people’s health in the long-term believe it’s just as bad as any other non exercise-based activity. In fact, those who eat lots of food while playing bingo are very likely to pack on pounds over the years as they sit in bingo halls or on their computer.

And as far as playing bingo on the computer goes, people are very critical of online bingo since it seemingly takes out the social aspect of the game. However, what many critics of online and live bingo don’t know is that bingo is actually much healthier than a lot of other sedentary activities people engage in.

Positive Effects of Bingo

As mentioned before, bingo isn’t going to help you shed weight and get in shape fast. But critics and people alike need to understand that bingo actually brings a lot of health benefits to the table in other areas.

As a recent study performed in the United Kingdom proved (see here), bingo is very beneficial in increasing brain activity as well as mental capacity. The first series of tests in the study were run on two groups of elderly people over a prolonged period of time. One group of people in the study played bingo on a regular basis while the other group didn’t play any bingo at all. As researchers predicted, the bingo playing group was able to vastly improve their memory functions, brain activity, and even reflexes in comparison to the non-bingo playing group.

But that wasn’t the end of the study though as researchers also wanted to find out if bingo helped younger people as well. So some studies were run on groups of younger generations involving the same two group setup where people both played bingo and didn’t play bingo. After the study on younger people was completed, the researchers found out the same to be true in that the bingo players improved their memory functions, reflexes, and brain activity more than the non-players.

Maintaining an Overall Lifestyle

With the results of the UK study in hand, it’s obvious that bingo is a far better sedentary activity to do than say….sitting around and watching TV. When you are playing bingo, you’re exercising thinking skills, making quick and hopefully accurate decisions, and using your brain far more than you would by staring at a television.

Another thing that bingo is great for is helping people to socialize and make friends. As mentioned before, some critics think that online bingo is an isolated activity void of any meaningful contact. However, this is quite wrong since people can meet lots of fellow players by talking in the chat box, joining bingo clubs, or participating in online forums. Many players have made friendships that will last a lifetime through online bingo! And playing bingo in bingo halls is an obvious way to develop friendships since these places feature rooms full of people.

But even with all of the noted bingo benefits, avid players need to maintain a healthy lifestyle through other means too. Those who play bingo should also develop healthy eating habits and exercise regularly as well. If a person is capable, they should do at least 3 cardio sessions a week of 20 minutes or longer. On top of this, they need to stick to healthy meals and avoid overindulging in fatty and salty foods. By doing these things, bingo players can develop an overall healthy lifestyle and still enjoy the game they love.
