Bingo Superstitions Revealed
Superstition has its place in any game where chance or luck is involved. So it is no surprise that bingo carries its fair share of superstitious people as well. In fact, anyone who frequents bingo halls or plays online bingo is bound to come across those that believe trinkets and charms will help them beat their opponents. And it is people like this who add a further element of excitement to the game of bingo. Here is a glimpse at the different superstitions bingo players believe in and what the facts are behind these beliefs.
Trinkets and Charms
Players who carry around trinkets and charms are the easiest to identify when looking for the superstitious crowd. They believe that having a little troll by their seat or wearing a certain pair of socks is going to magically help them win more promotional bingo games. But while lucky socks and big-haired trolls are popular among bingo enthusiasts, nothing is more widely used than the good old rabbit’s foot.
Many players think that any rabbit’s foot will work to their advantage – even store bought ones. But there are other people who will only use rabbit’s feet that are obtained in a certain way. According to legend, the only truly lucky rabbit’s foot comes from a rabbit that is shot in a cemetery on the Friday 13th. Going beyond this, the rabbit’s foot must also be the left hind leg or it is supposedly no good. Now that’s a lot of stipulations for a lucky rabbit’s foot!
The question is though….are any of these trinkets like the rabbit’s foot actually lucky? Common logic would tell us no, but don’t tell that to the people who commonly use them in bingo games. In fact, some people swear by their charms and won’t play a game without them!
Card Patterns
Ranking up there with trinkets and charms in terms of superstition popularity definitely has to be card patterns. The deal with this is basically that some players think if a certain pattern is on their bingo card they will have a better chance of winning. Obviously, there is no scientific proof to back these claims up, but a lot of players strive to obtain certain cards due to this myth.
The card patterns that people think will make them a winner basically just depends on the individual. So if somebody notices a certain pattern on their bingo card more than once (or even just once), it’s likely that they will develop a superstitious belief in this particular pattern.
Positive Outlook
Perhaps the most believable bingo superstition from a “logical” standpoint is the belief that having a positive mental outlook while playing will guide a player to a win. For instance, if a person has positive thoughts running through their head while marking their card or thinking of the numbers then they will supposedly have a better chance of winning. The positive energy that arises as a result of thinking this way is believed to have propelled many players to victory.
And the reason that some people tend to believe this superstition over others is because positive mental energy has been preached in many fields as a means to success. So it is only natural that the whole positive thoughts, positive results idea would make its way to bingo. Still though, it’s a little hard for many people to believe that simply thinking positive thoughts can make the bingo balls roll their way. But for those who’ve won while engaging in this process, it’s as real as can be!
