2009 Poker Goals

Now that we have arrived in the new year I have had plenty of time to reflect on the past 12 months. Overall last year was not a bad year at all. I broke even and played well but didn't quite get there in big tournaments. I did well playing cash games but did not play them as much as I would have liked either.

This year I am on a mission to have a major tournament win and to play consistently in the cash games. I realize that it will take a bit more dedication on my part but I am up to the task. Here are a few goals I have for 2009:

1. Play more cash games.
2. Write more feature articles.
3. Read more poker books. (I only read 3 new ones last year)
4. Perform better in large tournaments and over come the constant bubbling.
5. Continue to play solid consistent poker.

That pretty much sums up the things I really need to do. There are five items on my list but the most important is winning a big tournament. It has been an evasive task over the past year or so. No doubt due to the fact that the players are better now and the learning curve on the game has been significantly reduced.

I also need to avoid bad beats when we are down to 10 players in a big tournament. Beats kind of plagued me last year in critical big pots late in the poker tournament. Otherwise, the other items I can continue to chip away at. There are also several new poker books available that I have not had the opportunity to sit down and read. I plan on addressing that as well.

I am a reading junkie so I love it when a new poker book comes out., Anyhow, those are my goals for the new year. I like to write them down and refer to them from time to time to see where I am at.
