Changes coming to 2010 WSOP?

As usual I am always reading everything I can get my hands on about the game of poker. Apparently the forces that be at Harrah's are looking at making some changes to the 2010 World Series of Poker. I don't know about you but the first thing they can change is to stop with this delayed Final Table. The bottom line is that it is not doing what it was intended to accomplish. The idea was to delay the Final Table so that the players could peruse the talk show circuit and do interviews to promote the game. It sounded like a great idea but the problem is that none of the players seem to get it and they are not participating for the second year in a row.

That being said, we still do not know if Harrah's will be keeping the delay in next years WSOP. So let's move on to what we know they are considering at this point.

First, there are going to be more $1000 buy-in tournaments. This obviously will get even more players involved and allow even those with the smallest of bankrolls an opportunity to play in the WSOP.

Second, the H.O.R.S.E. event is not very likely to be televised again despite it's popularity with the audience. In my opinion this is a major mistake. Why take something out of your programming that the fans have told you they enjoy? It makes no sense to me but it could happen.

Lastly, you are not going to see the $40k Annual Event again. This was a bit of a novelty event in that it was strictly to celebrate the anniversary of the WSOP itself. I suppose we can look for the $50k Annual event ten years from now.

In any event all of these changes are speculation as nothing has been finalized. So don't be surprised if the WSOP looks and feels just a little different next year.
