Tom Dwan

As I sit here writing this piece I am actually wondering why it took me so long to do one on Tom Dwan. Needless to say Tom "Durrr" Dwan is the topic of many a conversation involving poker. If you don't know who he is by now you may be finding out very soon. For the past 6 years Tom Dwan has built up quite a reputation playing online poker and has a multi-million dollar bankroll to prove it. Dwan multi-tables and plays no limit holdem and Pot-Limit Omaha as his games of choice. You may have already heard about the Tom Dwan challenge he is currently playing against Patrick Antonious. If Antonious beats Dwan by at least $1 dollar he will win $1.5 Million.

Those are nosebleed stakes no matter who you are.

Dwan has done well on Poker After Dark and has made a WPT final table too. So he is far from the one dimensional first impression that most people have of him as an internet poker player. I have been lucky enough to have seen Dwan play several times online and indeed he wins a lot more than he loses. Having said all that he has issued yet another challenge. This time it will be a staged TV heads-up match. It doesn't get much better than that. This particular challenge will involve a $500k buy-in and either Pot-Limit or No Limit Holdem with $1000 / $500 blinds. They will play a fixed number of hands for each round and the winner takes it all plus Dwan will pay $1.5 million.

You gotta give Dwan a lot of credit. This guy is an in your face kinda player and sure seems fearless. Only time will tell if he can take down the biggest names in the game face to face.
