Poker is a long term game

As I sat down and was bad beat out of my fourth poker tournament in a row. I immediately broke out into laughter at my own demise. Yes, I broke out into laughter. I had my Pocket Kings cracked by Pocket Queens for the second time in as many days. Everyone looked at me as if I was crazy. As I was getting up I smiled and shook my opponents hand much to his surprise as we had been playing for several hours and I was 4th in chips with 18 players to go before the final table.

"Dude, I can't believe you're so cool after that beat?"

I was cool because I understand how variance works and how often I have benefited when variance has swung my way to win a hand I was dominated in. Variance happens and there is nothing any of us can do about it other than shake it off and try again the next tournament. Sitting or standing around after busting out of the tournament and whining about having the best hand does you no good and makes you look like someone that does not play the game very often. So if you take a beat take it gracefully and move on. No one wants to be around a sore loser. Remember, losing and winning in poker is a long-term venture.
