Hosting Poker Tournaments A Great Way To Make Cash
Recently, I was working on an article and I found out that one of the quickest ways to make money – efficiently – was to hold a gambling tournament. The only thing that was faster and more lucrative then that was to start your own religion! There are definitely laws and regulations to follow when you set about doing something like this. The first, of course, is to be sure you’re following federal, state, and local ordinances and laws. If there is a “no gambling” law in your area, don’t fret, you can usually get around it. Many Amateur Poker Leagues have you “rent a chair” for the cost of competing in the tournament. This is probably the easiest way to get around having to charge a buy-in fee.
You also want to make sure you have a good amount of people guaranteed to show. One of the most efficient was to do this is by getting people together regularly to play, before diving into a tournament. Also, consider handing out flyers at the local APL games, bars, and even college campuses. To start, you may want to require people to “register” ahead of time so you know how many people will be playing, and you can be prepared for however many there are.
There are many other things that you’ll want to look into to make your tournament an even bigger success. Having smoking rooms and serving liquor are two of the most requests amenities at poker halls. Of course, there are liquor licenses to acquire, as well, and of course, many varying smoking laws to adhere to. While it varies from state to state, there may also be insurance requirements to obtain, as well.
Finally, there’s the basic logistics such as having a venue, tables and chairs, new cards and chips, etc. You may also consider getting merchandise made up, as well. Many poker tournaments are starting to have entertainment, too. Additionally, you have to decide whether or not people can re-buy and if you’re going to have any side games or not. Prizes and bounties are additional incentives to offer players, which may increase the number of your participants, and ultimately, your profits.
Once all of these things are squared away, you stand a very good chance of having a completely successful tournament. And if that doesn’t work out for you, you can always try the “starting a cult” idea.
