Choosing Blackjack Tables

Choosing Blackjack Tables

When you’re ready to play casino blackjack, you probably don’t want to worry about anything other than using proper strategy. After all, blackjack strategy is what’s going to minimize the house edge, and increase your chances of winning money. However, one of the most overlooked factors in playing blackjack is choosing the right table, and we’ll explain how to pick good tables below.

Playing without Distraction

Even the best blackjack players have trouble concentrating when there are drunken morons at the table. People who are drunk and obnoxious not only make the game less fun (unless you’re drunk too), but they also serve as distractions that can make you play worse. In the same vein are know-it-alls who try to preach strategy to players who already have a good idea on what to do. With all of this being said, you should observe a few different tables to make sure that nobody will hinder your play.

Dealer Speed

Even when you use perfect basic blackjack strategy, the house will hold a 0.5% edge. Fortunately, there will be times where you’re on fire and you win tons of money from the house; but you also have to account for the fact that the house still holds a slight long-term edge. That being the case, you’ll lose less money by playing at tables where the dealer is slow. After watching some different tables, you should be able to spot the slower dealers. Assuming you want to play as many hands as possible though, simply look for the faster dealers.

Table Position

Some players feel more comfortable being at first base (first seat to dealer’s left), while others want to occupy third base (immediate seat to dealer’s right) – or a seat somewhere in between. Whatever the case may be, it’s good to stick with the position you like, so wait around for your favorite seat if you have to. Also be aware that if you’re a blackjack beginner, you should avoid third base since players get angry when this position helps the dealer out with bad plays.

Card Counting

If you’re a card counter, then you should pay extra special attention to details when selecting a blackjack table. Those who are skilled counters should be looking for the fastest dealt table to maximize profits. The reason why is because extra hands means more of a chance for you to exploit your card counting edge. However, if you’re a beginning counter, it might be best to stick with slower dealers so you can get the hang of things.

Looking for Fun

One of the big reasons why people play casino blackjack is because of the social aspect. If you fall into this category, then you’ll have a lot more fun by choosing blackjack tables where everybody is talking and having a good time. As mentioned before, the best way to find what you’re looking for is to walk around the casino and observe different tables; when you find the fun, social group, grab a seat!
