Galaxy Macau - Gambling’s Newest Hotspot
Over the past few years, Macau has exploded in popularity to become the world’s biggest gambling destination. Both the region’s number of visitors and annual gambling revenue dwarf the competition, and this gap only looks to get bigger with the addition of Galaxy Casino Macau - an enormous $2 billion project that came to fruition after the doors were recently opened. As you’ll find out, this casino is truly a spectacle with many unique features that make Galaxy Macau one of a kind.
Surf’s Up
Perhaps the most impressive thing about this new casino is that it comes complete with an artificial beach and wave pool. Sure the beach won’t inspire illusions of surfing on the Pacific coast, but it’s pretty amazing for a casino complex. As the name implies, the wave pool provides a realistic ocean feeling as it sends waves crashing onto the shore, and a lifeguard is on duty at all times when the pool is open. An added bonus includes this being the world’s largest rooftop pool at 4,000-square-feet.
Diamond Fountain
Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but they have also become the Galaxy Macau’s best friend too since visitors are awed by the lobby’s diamond fountain. Now the whole fountain isn’t made out of diamonds per say, but rather a giant diamond is attached to a chandelier that rises out of the fountain for pure visual pleasure. And if this isn’t eye-catching enough, there is also a mini-light show that reflects different colors off the big diamond when it’s visible.
Warm Welcoming
Once visitors make it past the astonishing diamond fountain, they’ll be treated to some good ole’ Japanese hospitality. Galaxy Casino has kimono-clad women spread throughout the Hotel Okura tower waiting to greet people with a traditional Japanese bow. And Galaxy really went all out with these women since many of them have underwent formal hostess training in Okura, Japan. As if this isn’t enough, Galaxy Casino also appeals to the red-blooded males out there since they have a staff of female Asian hostesses whose job requirements include being at least 68 inches tall (172 centimeters).
A Work of Art
You can tell that the Galaxy Casino designers did their best to make this establishment a true spectacle just based on the extravagant sculptures present. There are numerous detailed sculptures in the lobby area, including a giant, neon peacock-style piece and over-sized marble seashell sculpture. If you’re wondering about the significance of these, it’s said that much of the artwork is meant for good luck.
Drink Up
There is certainly no shortage of wine and alcohol on hand at Galaxy Macau since most of the restaurants offer hundreds of different wine selections. Those who are looking for something a little harder than wine can visit the Macallan bar because nearly every liquor you can think of is served here.
Vacancy
Unless you’re visiting around a major Chinese holiday, finding a room at the Galaxy Casino shouldn’t be difficult since there are 2,200 rooms in all. The hotels are split up into the aforementioned Hotel Okura and the Hotel Banyan Tree. Banyan Tree is particularly interesting because every room offers a temperature-controlled pool that can fit 2-3 people.
Fine Dining
As with any great casino, Galaxy has plenty of food options for people to choose from with their 50+ restaurants. You’ll find everything from world-class restaurants to McDonald’s housed under the various Galaxy Macau buildings. If you’re looking for excellent atmosphere, the Banyan Café, Terrace Restaurant, and Laurel and Belon Oyster Bar & Grill are all pretty impressive
Cotai Region
Aside from appreciating all of the charms that Galaxy Casino has to offer, visitors will also be able to walk to several other impressive casinos since Galaxy is located in the trendy Cotai region. Some of the nearby attractions include the Venetian Macau, Macau Studio City, Four Seasons, Grand Waldo, City of Dreams, Wynn Cotai and more. With all of these casinos in such close proximity to each other, it’s no wonder why people think of the Cotai Strip as the new and improved Vegas Strip.
