Right and Wrong Bettors in Craps

Right and Wrong Bettors in Craps

In most cases, gaming is an individual act where only one person in the casino matters - YOU. Sure you might chat with other people at the table, but you could care less if they come out on top as long as you’re winning. However, craps is the one exception to the lone wolf gambling mentality since people are often cheering for each other and creating a team-based atmosphere. Since we all want to be a part of something (even in gambling), let’s take a look at right and wrong bettors in craps.

Right Bettors

If you want to be a part of the team feeling described above, you need to be a right bettor. One casino wager that will make you a right bettor is the pass line bet where you’re hoping the shooter rolls a 7 or 11 on the come out roll (winner) as opposed to 2, 3, or 12 (loser). If any other number is rolled (point), right bettors want the shooter to roll the point number before rolling a 7.

Another wager that right bettors place is the come bet. This is essentially the same bet as a pass line casino wager, except it’s placed after the come out roll meaning players still want the shooter to roll the point number before a 7. Basically, right bettors are always betting with the shooter rather than against a shooter.

Right bets are nice because they offer a relatively low house edge at 1.41%. Of course, the main advantage to being a right bettor is that you can join the crowd in cheering wildly for the shooter. This is especially nice in land-based casinos where you can become friends with fellow gamblers who are also right bettors.

Wrong Bettors

Wrong bettors are in stark contrast to the boisterous, vibrant right bettors. In fact, wrong bettors are usually standing by themselves at a corner of the craps table. This being the case, it’s no wonder why wrong bettors are said to be on the “dark side.”

Don’t pass line bets are a trademark of wrong casino bettors as they hope for a 2 or 3 on the come out roll (12 is a push) while a 7 or 11 results in a loss. Wrong bettors also make don’t come bets where they want a 7 to be rolled before the point.

Since wrong bettors are always betting against the shooter, they are really unpopular at the craps tables. It’s for this reason that most people stick with making right bets. However, one nice thing about making wrong bets is that they provide a slightly lower house edge than right bets at 1.40%.

If you want to take advantage of this little edge while avoiding all of the negativity that comes with being a wrong casino bettor, you should play online craps. The concept of right and wrong bettors remains the same online, but at least you don’t have to stand next to the other casino craps players.
