Roulette Wheel Bias

Roulette Wheel Bias

One of the most intriguing concepts in all of gambling is roulette wheel bias. Wheel bias is looked at by some as a path to unparalleled riches and fortune in roulette. Others aren’t so sold on wheel bias, and believe that it’s just another fun gambling system to try. With two very different views regarding wheel bias, it’s definitely worth taking a look at which side is right. But first, let’s check out the theory behind wheel bias and how one can manipulate roulette odds in their favor.

Wheel Bias Theory

The whole idea behind wheel bias is that not all roulette wheels offer totally random results. Wheel bias leaves the possibility open that certain wheels could be slightly off-centered, and gamblers should do their best to find them. And the reason why you want to find a wheel that’s off-centered is to take advantage of the numbers the wheel is favoring.

For instance, if the wheel is favoring 00, 0, 1, 2, and 3, you need to be placing bets on these numbers or the section where the numbers are. Assuming you can find a biased wheel and place bets on it, you could gain a 5% to 15% advantage over the house. But while the theory definitely makes sense, it takes a lot of work to detect biased wheels.

Detecting Wheel Bias

As was just mentioned, detecting wheel bias isn’t easy because – like the old saying goes – if it were easy, everybody would be doing it. Add in the fact that casinos do everything possible to ensure that their wheels are correct and the process only gets tougher. Anybody who plans on finding a biased wheel needs to set aside countless hours for the process. That’s because a person has to study numerous wheels in different casinos to find an off-centered wheel.

When attempting to find a biased wheel, you should have pen and paper on hand to keep track of the results. Unfortunately, the pen and paper (or whatever recording device you use) is only the beginning because you’ll need to record at least several thousand spins to find a biased wheel. If you want truly accurate results, you might have to record 20,000 spins or more! Once you’ve recorded enough spins, you should be able to tell if the wheel favors certain numbers or not.

Factors Working Against You

After looking at how many spins need to be recorded in order to detect wheel bias, it’s obvious what the main factor working against you is – time! It takes days or even weeks to record this many spins on a single wheel so it goes without saying that the average gambler doesn’t stand much of a chance at detecting wheel bias. Going even further, you’ll have to look at numerous wheels in different casinos to find ones that are biased (if you find any at all).

Another big problem is that there’s always the chance a supposedly biased wheel isn’t biased at all. In this case, even several thousand spins may not be enough to find what (if any) numbers a wheel is favoring. On the other hand, you could be playing on a legitimately biased wheel, yet not have a large enough bankroll to take advantage of the edge. So as you can see, the concept of wheel bias is often a leap of faith.

The Wheel Bias Master

With the huge time commitment required to find biased wheels and the fact that countless hours could be all for nothing, you’d think one was crazy to go around casinos looking for biased wheels. That is until you hear the success stories behind wheel bias…..

Gonzalo Garcia-Pelayo is the best known success story out of any wheel bias expert. Garcia-Pelayo spent hours recording results from specific wheels in Spanish casinos, and even got his 5 kids to help him record data. Once Garcia-Pelayo was satisfied with the amount of data he collected, he put the numbers into a computer program. After analyzing computer calculations, Garcia-Pelayo finally began to exploit the advantage he had gained over the casino.

The results were astounding! Gonzalo Garcia-Pelayo made several million dollars by beating both Spanish and American casinos in roulette. One Spanish casino even sued to get their money back, but to no avail. Since Garcia-Pelayo’s reported success, a number of other wheel bias wannabes have followed in his footsteps.

A Risk worth Taking?

With many gamblers trying to copy the feats of Garcia-Pelayo, it’s worth asking if wheel bias is a risk worth taking. After all, casinos didn’t exactly receive Gonzalo with open arms once he started beating their roulette games, and they don’t look kindly upon people who spend hours studying wheels without placing bets. Assuming a casino doesn’t ask you to leave while recording spin results, there is always the matter of if a wheel is truly biased.

In the end, it all depends upon how serious you are about roulette and gambling in general. If you are already going to be spending hours in the casino, why not try out a technique that supposedly leads to long-term success. But if you’re just a casual gambler who’s acting on an impulse (like the majority of gamblers), maybe finding biased wheels isn’t the best idea.
