Tyler Bonkowski Celebrates a Massive Poker Victory

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Rio All-Suites Hotel & Casino is well underway. What started off with a field comprising thousands of players is gradually being clipped to a more manageable size with some stellar performances from key players. The man of the moment however is Canada’s very own Tyler Bonkowski.

The hotshot 26 year-old poker ace hails from Regina, Saskatchewan. He started playing poker in his college years and he became so talented in his craft that he decided to take his gaming to the next level. At the prestigious WSOP 2011 in fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada, Tyler won some 15 events in a row in the lead-up to his mega-prize.

His victory in Event # 14 $3,000 Limit Hold’em Championship marks his very first poker bracelet victory.

While fellow Canadian poker aficionados have heard the name Tyler Bonkowski, few others around the world would have been familiar with him. That’s all changed overnight. At the conclusion of Day 10 of the prestigious WSOP, Tyler’s name was featured in the WSOP 2011 casino billboards as one of the new-age poker giants.

It appears that quitting college to play poker was the right decision for Tyler. To date, he’s amassed a small fortune from the game he loves and more is sure to come his way as he advances through the WSOP 2011. This year’s contest marks his fourth WSOP payday.

Beyond the casino cash payday, Tyler has now earned his 4th World Series of Poker payday. The 26 year-old Canadian from Regina, Saskatchewan was thrilled with his stellar poker performance. As a first-time bracelet winner, Tyler Bonkowski won 15 events in a row before he nailed this massive prize.

Trumping Brandon Demes Made It Happen

Fellow poker ace Brandon Demes made Tyler work hard for his victory in Event #14. But Tyler’s determination to completely dominate the pack was hard to match. He was so excited that he commented: ‘Winning the gold bracelet is huge… All I could think about last night was I was third in chips with 18 players left… You're going to play your best and things will happen if it happens, it happens.’

Bonkowski’s showdown against Demes was a hard-fought affair. When Bonkowski was down to 250,000 chips he upped his game and soon powered into a 2-1 chip lead over Demes. When it was time for the final showdown, Demes was sitting tight-lipped on 500,000 chips. The final had featured 10s, 6d, 5c and 5h.

Tyler was holding a Kd and a 10s. That looked pretty good, given that Demes was holding a Ks and a Qh. The river card was turned over – 8h - but neither player benefited. But Tyler’s 2 pairs were enough to claim the prize. Prior to this victory, Tyler Bonkowski had won a whopping $391,151 in live poker tourney cash. The action at this casino was boiling over!

Tyler Bonkowski is the 2nd player from Team 888poker to claim a victory in the 2011 WSOP.
