Video Poker Jackpot Tips
Nobody spends hours playing casino-style video poker games just to get those two and three coin payouts. Instead, people want to hit a royal flush and win the jackpot! Assuming you’re part of the crowd who wants to increase their chances of winning a jackpot, here are some simple tips to keep in mind.Tip #1: Find out what kind of jackpot you’re playing for
The number one thing that you need to do in order to improve your luck with casino jackpots is decide what type of prize is offered. Although rare, some video poker games offer fixed jackpots, which means you won’t gain any advantage over playing one coin vs. three coins per hand. On the other side of the equation are progressive jackpots, which normally require people to play the max amount of coins possible to win the highest jackpot. This being the case, it’s wise to use the max number of coins when playing progressives.
Tip #2: Use corresponding strategy for each video poker game
The video poker world is filled with different casino variations such as Jacks or Better, Deuces Wild, Double Bonus, Double Double Bonus, Joker Poker and more. Each game has its own little rule discrepancies, and this means that you need to use a different strategy for each one. Fortunately, it’s not extremely hard to pick up on the basics for most games - especially Jacks or Better. In any case, just be sure that you don’t try to use a universal video poker strategy when moving between variations.
Tip #3: Don’t play with a small bankroll
For most players, it takes countless hours and coins to win a video poker casino jackpot. The latter part is key because far too many people try playing the game on a shoestring budget. Unfortunately, you have virtually no chance at a jackpot unless you have a seriously funded bankroll. After all, the common generic odds of winning a video poker jackpot are 1 in 40,000. And while this may change quite a bit depending on the game you‘re playing, you can get the picture as to how tough it is to win a jackpot. So as a general rule of thumb, you should be willing to spend between 20,000-60,000 times the coin amount needed to win the biggest prize.
Tip #4: Avoid zoning in on the jackpot
The most extreme video poker strategy involves directing everything at winning the jackpot. For example, if you held a three-of-a-kind hand, you would dump this hand in favor of chasing the royal flush. And while this might sound like a cool idea in theory, it’s actually one of the worst ideas you can use. The main reason why is because you will miss out on tons of smaller payouts along the way, which will put a serious hurting on your bankroll. Going further, when correct strategy is used, the jackpot will usually only make up 2-5% of your total long-term winnings, which means it’s only a piece to the casino puzzle.
Tip #5: Be realistic about the amount of time involved
As alluded to in the third tip, it takes a long time to win a jackpot in video poker. With this being said, you can’t reasonably expect to win a jackpot in two or three hours. In fact, there are no guarantees that you’ll hit a royal flush after 200 or 300 hours of play. So it’s important to be realistic about the length of time it takes to win a jackpot, and don’t get discouraged when a royal flush doesn’t come after a couple weeks of playing. Instead, you need to collect all of the small casino payouts along the way and be patient.
