Celebs Find Their Casino Hot Spots

Celebs Find Their Casino Hot Spots

Celebrities are attracted to certain casinos.  By the same token, people are attracted to celebrities. Casinos such as The Palms are hugely successful due in large part to their policy of catering to celebs who bring in the gaming crowds.

Celebrity Casinos

Stars flock to the Bellagio in Las Vegas. The shimmering poker room is sophisticated as well as glitzy. A large chandelier, with hand-blown Murano crystal, catches the eye as you enter. Also catching your eye will most probably be some celebrities. A few of the movie stars that you may see are Demi Moore, Alex Rodriguez and Matt Damon. The Bellagio provides a luxurious setting where stars feel at home.

The American Gaming Association has thoroughly researched the topic of celebrity gamers. According to president and CEO Frank Fahrenkopf, celebrities are generally attracted to upscale casinos, especially those establishments that are situated in a multi-activity area, where there is plenty to do other than just gambling. The Gaming Association has also found that stars use gaming as mini-vacations, too short for faraway destinations. Therefore, those casinos that are closest to home get the celebrity business.

Las Vegas, home of celebrity gaming

The most popular gaming getaway for celebs is Las Vegas, close to California stardom and filled with exciting activities. The shops such as Louis Vuitton and Hermes are expensive and famous. The restaurants are among the best in the world, with renowned chefs like Tom Colicchio and Emeril Lagasse. The Qua at Caesar’s Palace is representative of the luxurious spas in Vegas. Nightclubs like Pure make Las Vegas nightlife a memorable experience.

Privacy is a Vegas option for stars. Private gaming is provided at many casinos. President of the online concierge and travel service Vegas.com, Howard Lefkowitz, has commented that Sin City is a top gaming location with celebrities, as casinos cater to their needs.  He has observed that movie stars are comfortable with their ability to choose to spend their Vegas time in the center of a spectacle or out of the public’s view.

The Palms

Widely known for its extensive policy of bringing in celebrities, The Palms provides a congenial, welcoming and flexible stay for all celebs. The casino has built its reputation and business around the crowds of players that gravitate to stars and starlets.

Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, Ryan Seacrest, Pamela Anderson and Jason Giambi are some of the stars that find their way to the private craps, roulette, blackjack and poker games established just for them at the Palms. This mid-sized, popular casino houses an open gaming area and the Mint. As its name implies, the Mint is a high-stakes lounge where games like blackjack and roulette are played by the rich and famous.

Ben Affleck is a regular in the casino’s no-limit poker parlor. He sometimes plays with $1000 chips until the sun appears in the morning sky. A Playboy slot machine grabs the interest of Pamela Anderson. Bruce Willis is a regular fellow, drawn to the craps table with the other players in the open gaming area. Setting him apart, however, is the amount he is comfortably able to lose.

Borgata in Atlantic City

Prior to the opening of the Borgata in 2003, outside of Vegas upscale casinos were few and far between. The luxurious Borgata opened in Atlantic City to the relief and satisfaction of many New York stars. A few years after the doors of the Borgata were open, many luxury stores followed suit, including Armani and Gucci.

Atlantic City soon became the destination of gaming celebs. Jon Bon Jovi, Nick Lachey, Jamie Lynn Sigler and Drew Barrymore are some of the stars who can be seen at the Borgata. The luxury casino is huge, occupying over 160,000 square feet. The structure oozes with beauty, class and sophistication. The poker room alone includes 85 tables. There are 200 other gaming tables and 4,100 slot machines. Celebrity games, attracting many stars, include craps, blackjack and poker.

The Borgata is credited by American Gaming Association’s Fahrenkopf as being the source of the transformation of Atlantic City into an upscale gaming mecca. He has commented that the luxurious Borgata continues to attract wealthy crowds and celebrities, particularly from the New York City area.

Global Attraction

The Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia is the destination of the international celeb crowd. Celebs like Andy Roddick, Justin Timberlake and Maria Sharapova gravitate to this immense casino. The main floor is one-third of a mile in length. The Crown holds the distinction of being the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest casino. Smaller side rooms, each with its own theme, are also located in the casino. These side rooms offer baccarat, blackjack and poker. The 2011 Aussie Million Poker Championship was played at the Crown.

George Clooney and Leonardo DiCaprio are frequent visitors in Sydney, Australia. The Star is the usual gaming location for each of them. Clooney and business partner Brad Pitt now own a casino in Vegas. DiCaprio as well as Clooney appear magnetized by casinos. They have also played their fair share of gaming characters, Clooney most notably as Danny Ocean in the casino-based movies Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen.

The Star is known as a hotel/casino/resort/entertainment hub. The Star has visions of being on a par with Las Vegas and Macau. The expansion focus of the Star includes Darling Harbour Convention Center, where Clooney was the very first guest in the Darling’s luxury penthouse suite.

As to DiCaprio, he often gravitates to Australia. DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire, another avid poker player, both shot some scenes for the Great Gatsby in Sydney. They stayed at the Darling and played at The Star.

Last Vegas the movie

Michael Douglas, the forever-suave actor, was recently seen playing blackjack at the Tropicana in Sin City. He is a friendly fellow, mixing easily and enjoyably with the other casino guests. While it looked like Douglas was simply having an exciting gaming experience, it may have been that he was using the occasion to prepare for an upcoming movie.

Douglas, aged 67, is one of the actors who will appear in the movie Last Vegas. This is a coming of older age, throw caution to the winds film. Four 60-something best friends have decided to chuck their long- and hard-earned retirement funds on a Las Vegas bachelor party. His compatriots in this wild scheme are Jack Nicholson, Morgan Freeman and Robert De Niro.  This lovely decision of the quartet of friends will be an alternative to retirement. They sound like a happy and reckless foursome.

The world’s casinos are home to many global stars.
