Gearing up for the 2010 Aussie Millions Poker Tournament is a big deal. This series of tournaments is held every year in January at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia.
Besides being the richest poker tourney below the Equator with its prize payout exceeding AUD$7 million, it is now recognized as the crème de la crème of fine poker play.
The beginning of a poker sensation
From its humble beginnings in 1998, the Aussie Millions tournament had a $1,000 buy-in and a $74,000 prize pool. Of the 10 international participants, most were from New Zealand. But the tournament soon blossomed into the high-powered mega-poker event that it is today.
In the 2009 Aussie Millions Championship, there were 18 official events. The tourney itself concluded with a rollicking AUD$10,500 No Limit Holdem Main Event, much to the adoration of poker aficionados the world over.
Pundits in poker circles are eager to join the white-hot action of the Aussie Millions because there literally are millions of dollars up for grabs. In 2009 the 1st place prize was a whopping AUD$2 million.
The Aussie Millions 2010 Tournament Takes Shape
With poker bracelets to be won and lots of cash in the pot, it makes sense that the 2010 Aussie Millions Tournament is going to be better than any of the prior Aussie Millions Tournaments. The mise-en-scène of this stellar event will sport only the finest décor, the plushest settings and the most glorious prizes that top-notch poker money has to offer.
The 2010 event will play host to over 800 individual poker players in the AUD$10,500 buy-in No Limit Hold’em games. But that’s only the tip of this poker iceberg because there are some 2,000 plus individual entrants participating across the championship events. Tournament organizers expect a further 400 overseas visitors to be in attendance too. Naturally the hoopla surrounding the event will bring in the biggest news networks, tons of tourists and lots of forex.
