Editor's Review

The Stratosphere Las Vegas, located on the Las Vegas Strip, is a unique casino and hotel. The Stratosphere Tower, which is 1,149 ft (350 m) tall, is the tallest structure in the state of Nevada and the second-tallest free-standing structure in the United States west of the Mississippi River. The tower features a revolving restaurant and lounge, indoor and outdoor observation decks, a spa, and several rides.

Visitors to the Tower go up to the observation decks at the summit in less than 30 seconds in elevators traveling at speeds of 1,800 feet per minute or three floors a second. For adrenalin seekers, three rides are available: Insanity-The Ride, X Scream and the Big Shot. They are among the tallest rides in the world - 921-foot high!

The tower also offers restaurants for dinning with a great view of sin city, 800 feet above the Strip. You can try the award-winning cuisine at the Top of the World Restaurant or other eateries, including the Crazy Armadillo Oyster Bar, the Courtyard Buffet, Roxy's Diner, Lucky's Café, Hamada Asian Village and Fellini's Ristorante Italiano.

The Stratosphere offers players a 80,000 square-foot casino, with more than 50 table games, including poker, blackjack, European roulette and craps and more than 1,500 slot machines and video poker machines. The casino also has a race and sports book and keno.

The Vegas landmark offers guests 2,444 room and suites. The rooms are decent in size and clean and the nightly rate is quite a bargain. The upgraded rooms, observation deck and entertainment make it a good place to stay. The major drawback, however, is the hotel's distance from the center of the action, since it is located on the extreme north end of the strip, far away from the most popular hotel casinos.
