Editorial Review

Poker770 is an established poker site with a difference. The site first opened in 2002, and since then they have added many features, including webcam play at certain tables.

Poker770 is a great site for both serious and casual players. There are lots of promotions going on, and ways for everyone to get in on the action, from regular big-money games to freerolls with cash prizes. There are also monthly freeroll tournaments were players have a chance to win a seat at the World Series of Poker, World Poker Tour, or European Poker Tour.

In between freerolls there are a lot of cash games, and lots of bonuses for depositing players too.   New players get $7.70 to start off with, and the now ‘usual’ 100% bonus on first deposits, although in this case that bonus is worth up to $500, which is quite a lot more than most competitors. The refer a friend bonus is generous too, at $75.

The rake is usually around 5% in most games, with a cap depending on the type of game, limits, and size of the table. The limit tables span the spectrum from a few cents up to

The site has a five-tiered VIP Club, with increasing privileges for each rank. VIP points are accumulated by playing at paid tables and in paid tournaments. You can redeem the VIP Club points for cash, or for increased club status.

The site uses an installable client for its games. Getting set up is quite simple, the download is fairly small, and the installation quick. After you install the client, it does another small download, then you can register your account and get started right away. The client isn’t the prettiest one I’ve ever seen, but it is functional.

The starting experience is marred by a ‘chat’ window popping up offering you an ‘exclusive bonus’ if you deposit right away. Personally, I’d rather be left alone to explore the game client and check out a few rooms before being nagged about depositing.

The selection of rooms is very large, and there seems to always be quite a few full or almost-full rooms, at any time of the day. The European time zone player population is huge, but American players (or UK night owls) will be able to find a decent selection of tables too.

Scheduled tournaments are listed inside the client, and you can register for them with just a few mouse clicks. The webcam play feature is only available at a handful of tables. If you don’t have a webcam you can still enjoy games at the other tables.

There are several poker variants represented, although the bias is towards hold’em variations, as you would expect for a site with such a strong leaning towards tournament play.

The client software has a decent number of features, including buddy lists, player notes, and game and transaction histories, making it great for players who want to analyze their performances and improve their game. The free play options make the site a good one for players who do not wish to, or are for some reason unable to, deposit to play at the money tables.

It is possible to enter a number of tournaments, and have a chance to win some big money prizes, without spending any real money, although competition is pretty fierce even in the free play sections.

I’d recommend Poker770 in terms of range of tables, value, and frequency of tournaments. It may not be the most attractive site, but it more than makes up for that in terms of features and community.
