Different kinds of poker chips – what are your options?

When you log in to your favorite online poker room or one of the many poker sites you play at, do you really consider everything involved in the game? Do you think about the poker chips that our forefathers had used to play poker or when the first Texas Hold’em or Omaha high poker games were played? Most players never investigate these intriguing questions, and just focus on making as much money as possible. If you’re a true fan of poker, you should at least learn some of the background of poker chips and the different materials used to make poker chips.

Plastic
Plastic poker chips seem to be the most common form of poker chips because they are durable, cost effective and easy to find. They are lightweight, but they last for long periods of time and look authentic. They don’t have the same luxurious feel of clay poker chips, but they serve their purpose well. You can find plastic poker chips almost anywhere, and a decent sized set won’t cost you that much!

Clay
Clay poker chips are another option. Clay poker chips cost a bit more than plastic poker chips, but they are usually better looking, have a better feel to them, and are more professional looking. They are not that much more expensive than plastic poker chips, so they are definitely something to look into!

Other materials
There are poker chips that are available in other materials as well. These are less common and are more vanity pieces than actual functional poker chips. Poker chips can be made from wood, stone, ceramic, or even crystal. Generally speaking, though, you want to avoid these chips for your home game, as they are quite expensive and difficult to play with.

Contrary to what most people think, there are many different kinds of poker chips available. They are available in different materials, with different designs, different weights, and different denominations. But, if all you do is play in online poker tournaments and other poker events, there’s a good chance that you have never really thought about this. While it may not be as important as your poker strategy, the poker hands you play or the poker tips you use, you should still spend a little time thinking about it.
If you plan on running a home game, you should know what different poker chips types are and which ones best fit the situation you need them for. Don’t be an ignorant poker player! Learn the background of poker!
