Like every sport and every game, poker has its legends, its professional players and the regular players. Who are these professional poker players and what is their story?

Today's poker players come from all over the world. They attend global tournaments and local tournaments, they play online and offline and they have their own playing style and game of choice.

Erik Lindgren

By the age of 21 he was playing poker full time, whilst working at a casino in San Pablo as a 'propositional player', hired by the casino to keep games interesting.

Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliot

He was one of 40 players to appear in the first series of the TV show 'Late Night Poker' – he played well throughout the show, and went on to win the £40,000 first prize. His performance was a major factor in the renewal of the show.

David 'Chip' Reese

Reese collaborated with Doyle Brunson on the Seven-Card Stud section of his book, the 'Super System'. He has been called 'the best player to ever live' by fellow poker legends such as T. J. Cloutier and Doyle Brunson.

Michael Mizrachi

Michael Mizrachi has won the World Poker Tour on two occasions, and has made the final table four times. He has also managed 10 money finishes in the World Series of Poker, but has yet to earn a bracelet in any of the events.

Jennifer Harman

Harman is best known as a cash game player, although she has enjoyed a lot of success on the tournament circuit in recent years. She is the only woman to hold two bracelets in the World Series of Poker open events.

Phil Laak

He is known as 'The Unabomber' because of his preference for wearing a hooded sweatshirt and pair of sunglasses at the poker table, making him look similar to the forensic sketch of the Unabomber.

Howard Lederer

Lederer is known as a scholarly player. He is often referred to by his nickname, 'The Professor' – because of his serious table personality, and his very analytical style of play.

TJ Cloutier

He is well known for being able to take in all of the action at a table at a glance. He said that he may not remember your name, but if he has ever played with you, he will remember your game style.

Phil Gordon

As well as playing poker, Gordon often commentates on broadcast poker tournaments. He was a commentator on Celebrity Poker Showdown for several seasons.

Barry Greenstein

Barry Greenstein has won more than $5 million from live tournaments so far. Early in his career, he donated almost all of his winnings to the charity 'Children, Incorporated'.

Phil Ivey

Ivey has gained 5 bracelets in the World Series of Poker, ranking him up with Phil Hellmuth Jr and Ted Forrest for the most WSOP tournament wins in one year.

Chris Ferguson

Chris has the nickname 'Jesus' because of his long brown hair and beard. Many people consider him to be one of the nicest people in the poker industry.

Annie Duke

Annie Duke currently holds the record for the most WSOP money finishes by a woman. She also took a $2 million prize in the 2004 World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions.

Joe Hachem

Joe believed that it would not be possible, as he had financial commitments, but, in 2005 his dream became a reality.

Stu Ungar

Stu Ungar was considered by many to be the best poker player in history, and is the only person who has ever won the World Series of Poker Main Event tournament three times over the course of their career.

Jerry Yang

The winner of the 2007 WSOP with a prize of $8.5 million. This poker star has only been playing poker since 2005.

Jamie Gold

The winner of the 2006 WSOP. This rising poker star won $12 million in the tournament and caused a controversy regarding the prize money.

Phil Hellmuth Jr.

Phil Hellmuth Jr. is one of the most recognized faces of the poker world and has become one of the game's legends.

Johnny Chan

Johnny Chan is one of the world’s most famous professional poker player with two World Series of Poker championship titles.

Doyle Brunson
