Phil Ivey

Phil Ivey

Phil Ivey is a professional poker player who was born in Riverside, California on February 1, 1976. He grew up in New Jersey, and started playing poker when he was a teenager. His nickname of 'No Home Jerome' comes from an ID card he used to get in to games in Atlantic City during his teenage years.

Ivey has had a very successful career to date, including gaining 5 bracelets in the World Series of Poker – three of which were in 2002, ranking him up with Phil Hellmuth Jr and Ted Forrest for the most WSOP tournament wins in one year.

He has had 26 money finishes in the World Series of Poker, and made the final table in World Poker Tour events 7 times. He has also enjoyed moderate success at the European Poker Tour, coming in second on his debut appearance in 2006.

Ivey now focuses on poker cash games instead of poker tournaments. He often plays at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, taking part in 'the big game' – a $4000 - $8000 mixed cash game.

Ivey has played at many tournaments, including the first European Poker Masters in 2006, and the Monte Carlo Millions tournament of 2005, where he took the $1,000,000 prize. The day after this tournament, he won another $600,000 by winning the Full Tilt Poker Invitational – beating other poker stars such as Phil Hellmuth, Chris Ferguson and Gus Hansen.

Ivey appeared on the NBC 'National Heads-Up Poker Championship', as well as their Poker After Dark show. His total tournament winnings so far (the end of 2007) are more than $8 million.

One of Ivey's more notable non-tournament wins was in February 2006, when he played Heads-Up Limit Texas Holdem against Andy Beal, a Texas billionaire. The stakes were set at $25,000-$50,000 and over the course of three days Ivey managed to win over $16 million.

He was playing with a group of poker professionals known as 'The Corporation', who has pooled their money and were taking turns to play against Beal. Earlier in the month, The Corporation had lost around $10 million in a similar game. After Beal lost to Ivey, he claimed that he was going to give up poker.

Ivey is married, and lives in Las Vegas. He enjoys golf, playing video games, and watching basketball. He is a fan of the Los Angeles Lakers and the Houston Rockets and has been observed wearing basketball jerseys on many occasions, including at the poker table.
