An Early Start as a Poker Pro

Negreanu started playing poker at an early age – to the disappointment of his parents coming from Romania. Already at the age of 15 he spent most of his time in billiard halls. There, he played billiards, he bet – and he learned to play poker. The game absorbed him so much that he quit school without graduation. However, he soon was able to prove to his family, that this had been no big mistake. “I was 17 when I started to win.” Negreanu stated in an interview. „At the age of 18 I played 40 hours a week. One of the biggest achievements of Negreanu is winning the World Poker Finals 1997, when he was voted to be the best player in the whole tournament. In 1998 he outplayed this achievement by becoming the youngest winner of a bracelet at the WSOP. In the next year he won three other bracelets and he won at the World Poker Tour twice.
