Women still sometimes are greeted with smiles in the world of poker and often they are underestimated as well. For a long time there were not many ladies participating in the great poker tournaments. Fortunately, this has changed in the meantime.

Especially when playing online poker many of the male participants discovered to their surprise that the remaining skilled opponent at the table was female. At the live tournaments there are many ladies as well, playing for the real big prices. Annette Obrestad and Sandra Naujoks are only two of the names that you will remember when talking about female poker players.

One of the best female poker players is Leonor Margets-Perez, also known as Leo Margets. The Spanish woman recently gained attention for winning third place at the Aussie Millions, the most important poker tournament on the southern hemisphere.

Margets began playing poker only in 2005 – but she liked the game right from the beginning. She played as often as possible and she soon showed great talent, especially at Texas Holdem. It was no surprise for her to win the University Poker Championship 2008. At this point she had already decided to become a poker pro. Margets biggest success of her career: in 2009 she participated at the WSOP in Las Vegas for the first time. She won 17th place and she also was the Last Woman Standing in the whole tournament.
