Mon, 06/02/2008 - 17:00 - US Casino Changes Age Restrictions
Some teenagers are disappointed at a US casino's decision to change its age restrictions, but some are happy to wait until they are old enough to play games such as blackjack and slots.
Northern Quest Casino in Spokane, Washington, brought in new rules this weekend, preventing those under the age of 21 from using its gambling facilities, such as its slots and blackjack tables.
KXLY.com reports that there has been a mixed reaction to the decision, with a number of regular 18-year-old casino-goers disappointed that they can no longer play the games they enjoy at the gambling destination.
"I was kind of disappointed to hear about that. It's something to do in Medical Lake, because it’s a small town and to have a good casino this close to us is nice," said local man Tyler Owens, who described Northern Quest as having a decent atmosphere.
Meanwhile, fellow teenager Greg Vaughn told the news provider he was “willing to wait” until his 21st birthday to try out the array of gambling machines on offer.
For those US states that do permit gambling, which includes the home of Las Vegas - Nevada, the usual legal age to indulge is 21. In the UK, most gambling venues request a customer to be over the age of 18.
